painting with wax - 2

Hi everyone. We may all communicate on this blog or you can email me personally. I'll be able to add pictures of your work after next week's class.

About the panels, who wants how many and what size? You need to tell me so I can order them from Alix and she can get them to me before next Wednesday. You will need 2 panels to mount prints or drawings on. One of them has to be a size that will fit on/in your hot palette or electric device. These will be whatever size you designate and $11 each. They are in addition to the 4 - 10 pieces of wood to experiment on (see below).

If you don't want to buy the panels from Alix then please bring 2 pieces of wood to use for this exercise. Quarter inch birch plywood is fine. You will be able to do the first step during class. Elizabeth and Barbara, I'll catch you up the following week.

What you need for next week:
- electric skillet or hot palette
- brushes
- encaustic medium
- pigments, encaustic sticks or oil paints
- propane torch
- tins for colors
- wood to paint on - I recommend pieces 12"x12" and smaller. You can reuse them so maybe four would be enough unless you end up wanting to keep them, then 10 or so would be a good number for the semester. Quarter inch birch plywood works well but any clean wood will do. Or dry wall Krissy. That will be an experiment but I suspect it will work.

Next week I'll demonstrate some line and mark making techniques. Also, I'll suggest some exercises for you to work with if you want guidance. And I will bring the panels you order from Alix. You'll do the first step in the process with the panels during class.

Don't worry if these things on the Sources list don't all make sense yet. I'll add to this list as we go along.
